Harrogate was paid a visit by children's TV royalty today (June 29) when CBeebies star, Andy Day, came to town.

The BAFTA-nominated TV presenter visited several schools as well as Imagined Things Bookshop on Montpellier Parade to sign copies of his books.

His most recent book, called Dino Racers: The Jungle Cup and the Lava Cup and described as "Hot Wheels meets dinosaurs" was published this week.

This afternoon, children and parents queued on Montpellier Parade to meet him.

Mr Day signed copies of his books, posters and even took time for pictures with his fans.

Speaking to the Stray Ferret, he said he was pleased to be back in Harrogate.

    He said:

I’m very excited to be here. This is my second time in this town and it’s good to be here ahead of the crime writing festival.

It’s been good to visit seven schools today and introduce the kids to my books.

Mr Day said it was “unfortunate” that he would not have time to visit cafe tearoom Betty’s, which is a few doors away from Imagined Things, as part of his book tour.

However, as luck would have it, a young fan had paid a visit to the tearoom especially for him and brought him a cake during his signing session.

    'It has been brilliant'

The event was organised by the publisher, Puffin Books, which chose Imagined Things to host Mr Day.

Georgia Eckert, owner of the book store, told the Stray Ferret the response had been “busier than we expected”.

    She said:

It has been brilliant and Andy is great. It such a great thing that he picked our little, independent bookshop to host his signing event.

It helps kids to read more. They [Andy’s books] are really fun as well.
