A place is only as good as its people, and Yorkshire is lucky to have so many great stories to tell, that celebrate the region’s vibrancy and diversity.

The Stray Ferret’s lifestyle team covers residents' unique hobbies and businesses, looks towards upcoming events or back to the area’s heritage, as well as highlighting the best food, drink and things to do in the area.

It’s been a decade since The Grand Départ stage of the Tour de France finished in spectacular style in Harrogate. Reflecting on this momentous occasion, we published a weekend series touching upon the memories and legacy that the race left upon the region.

With festival season in full swing, we also traced the timeline of Harrogate International Festivals all the way back to its origin in 1966, featuring some amazing images from decades ago.

Following the news that local pie suppliers Voakes had been recognised with a plethora of awards at the national Free From Awards, we sat down to speak to Laura Voakes to find out more about how a coeliac diagnosis was a catalyst for a now award-winning branch of the business.

If that wasn't enough, Sunday, July 7 was World Chocolate Day and our regular columnist and Masterchef semi-finalist Yemi shared two indulgent recipes for those with a sweet tooth.

This week’s content is looking to be just as varied; between our weekly round-up of events across the region and biweekly history series, the lifestyle writers have been hard at work finding some of the district’s most interesting topics.

Despite an inauspicious start to summer weather-wise, the Great Yorkshire Show marks the beginning of rural show season.

If tractor racing, horse trials and even Yorkshire Pudding throwing is your thing, we’ve put together a handy guide covering the key dates and times, so you don’t have to miss out on all the action.

Along the same theme, we’re also delving into the fascinating history behind showing livestock and speak to local farmers who’ve carried on this tradition.

You’ll also want to look out for our piece on Grantley Hall’s upcoming supercar event, an exclusive interview with one of the musicians closing out Harrogate Music Festival, and a feature on how Ripon Arts Hub is contributing to the city’s growing cultural scene.

Are you a fan of lifestyle features, what’s on content, inspiration for days out and things to do in the district?

By subscribing for just £4.99 a month or £49.99 annually, you will be able to access all lifestyle content, daily news and features, as well as a whole range of fantastic exclusive discounts and offers.
