List of open gardens in Harrogate district

Birstwith Hall gardens

Summer is here, which means open garden season has arrived. Numerous gardens will open to the public either as part of the National Garden Scheme or as standalone events organised by communities.

Knaresborough Open Gardens

June 29 & 30, 11:00-16:00

Admission: £5 (cash only)

Organised by Knaresborough Horticultural Society, the two-day event includes a plant sale. Funds raised will go towards supporting local charities, Henshaws and Orb.

Hampsthwaite Open Gardens

June 29, 12:30-17:00

Admission: Adult £5, child free

About 13 gardens in the village will open to the public. There will also be a plant stall, with proceeds going to St. Thomas a Beckett Church. The picturesque cottage gardens and grand spacious gardens are said to all hold surprises along the way.

Open Gardens at Marton cum Grafton

Dacre Banks Gardens

July 7, 12:00-16:30

Admission: Adult £8, child free

The gardens include Low Hall, Yorke House and White Rose Cottage. Dacre Banks Gardens are located in the Nidderdale countryside and are linked by a level walk along the valley. The gardens range from walled gardens and water gardens to a traditional cottage garden.

This walled garden spans across different levels and includes a romantic rose pergola alongside the vegetable garden, conservatory and water garden.

Nun Monkton Open Gardens

July 7, 11:00-17:00

Admission: Adult £6, child free

The event will see approximately nine open gardens including the spectacular gardens of The Priory. There will be a plant sale and all proceeds will go to the repair and maintainance of St. Marys Church.

Kirby Malzeard Open Gardens

July 7, 12:00-16:00

Admission, £5, child free

The event will be Kirby Malzeard’s third open gardens event and 12 gardens will open their gates for the occasion. There will be a scarecrow trail, refreshments and a plant sale. Any profits will go to St Andrew’s church, with money from the plant sale going to Kirkby in Bloom.

Swindon House Farm, Kirby Overblow

July 12, 11:00-16:00

Admission: Adult £5, child free

As the name suggests, this country garden is nestled in amongst farmland and has a fondness for wildlife. A pond, orchard and wildflower areas are paired with perennial borders to create an English cottage garden.

Goldsborough Hall, Goldsborough

July 21, 11:00-17:00

Admission: Adult £7.50, child free

The impressive 12-acre grounds of the historic home will showcase the grandeur of the former residence of HRH Princess Mary. The grounds feature a romantic rose garden, woodland walk, fountain and glasshouse as well as the double herbaceous borders reaching 120ft.

Greencroft, Littlethorpe

August 4, 12:00-16:00

Admission: Adult £5 child free

Greencroft will display its half-acre garden acre country garden with late summer perennial filled borders. Its circular garden with a wildlife pond and the ornamental features including temple pavilions, formal pool, and a gate to the pergola.

Littlethorpe Manor, Littlethorpe

September 8, 13:30-17:00

Admission: Adult £7, child free

Littlethorpe Manor gardens span an impressive 11 acres. The manor gardens feature a walled garden with herbaceous planting, a sunken garden with ornamental plants and a brick pergola adorned in wisteria. There is also a formal lawn with fountain pool and a contemporary physic garden with medicinal plants.
