The new owners of The Golden Lion in Ripon have said they hope to bring a traditional village pub feel to the city centre.

Daniel Prince, who is originally from Harrogate, has nearly 40 years of hospitality experience under his belt and took over the site with his wife, Tracy, towards the end of last year.

The pair are serving “unashamedly British pub food”, cooked by their son Jack, and local cask ales.

Mr Prince said they moved back to Ripon to be with family last year and set their sights on running a pub. He told the Stray Ferret:

“We were looking at taking over a new pub anyway and this had been refurbished around two years prior.

“It just has a really nice feel and is in a great location. It’s big enough but not massive to the point it becomes unmanageable.”

Mr Prince said people can expect real fireplaces to be lit during the winter months, as well as a newly restored beer garden to be enjoyed throughout the summer.

He added:

“We serve five quality cask ales and I really want to champion local breweries.

“It’s dead cosy inside. I always say people can expect a traditional village pub feel located in the city centre.”

The owners hope to put on live performances by local bands artists, as well as seasonal menus. Mr Prince also said:

“We sold our house and moved lock, stock and barrel to open a pub around Christmas time. I think we’ve done pretty well so far!”

The Golden Lion, on Allhallowgate, is open Tuesday to Sunday. Food is served from Wednesday to Sunday.
