A Harrogate company and firms in its supply chain have transformed Harrogate Homeless Project’s 16-bed hostel in the town centre.
Moda Living, which develops and operates rental properties across the UK, appealed to its suppliers to help it improve living conditions in the Bower Street facility, which needed refurbishing.
What began as an idea to improve living conditions at the hostel turned into a full refurbishment project, uniting suppliers, volunteers, and businesses to help one of the town’s most best-known charities.

Before and after: one of the bedrooms.
Moda Living’s suppliers provided materials and furniture for the property. Mansfield-based Deanestor supplied kitchen units, doors and worktops; Halifax-based Project ff&e provided beds and mattresses; and Leeds-based For The Project provided flooring at a heavily subsidised rate for the bedrooms and communal areas.
Several members of the Moda team also spent a day painting the hostel.
Nicola Ridgway, fundraising and marketing manager at Harrogate Homeless Project, said:
We are extremely grateful for all the support Moda have given towards our hostel refurbishment appeal. It just shows how well businesses can work together. It was a true team effort, and we are delighted with the relationship formed.

Before and after: the kitchen.
The refurbished space is already making a difference to the lives of residents. One of them, Alfie Stockdale, said:
Harrogate Homeless Project has really helped rebuild my confidence. I am now helping in the day centre, cooking for around 35 people a day, and also cooking for the hostel residents on a weekly basis.
The new kitchen at the hostel has provided us all with a place to come together and enjoy some social time. Before, a lot of us would take our food back to our rooms and eat on our own. This is much nicer.
