The latest addition to Harrogate’s world food scene is to open its doors next week.
The Stray Ferret in February revealed Indian restaurant Abu’s, which opened its first site in Darlington in 2019, had taken over the former Kinara Tandoori site on Cheltenham Crescent.
Its owner, Abu Raihan, who also manages front of house, told us at the time he wanted to open a local restaurant due to his strong links to Harrogate.
Mr Raihan was born in the town, whilst his father, Abdul, who is also the head chef, opened AliShaan restaurant in 1987 at the very Cheltenham Crescent unit Abu's has taken over.
The site has undergone a makeover in recent weeks, and Abu’s has finally revealed it will open its doors on Wednesday, April 29.
Abu’s describes itself as a “blend of great food and family values to craft the ultimate dining experience”.
The Abu’s menu features some ‘old school favourite’ curries, including madras, korma, balti, jalfrezi, dopiaza and rogan josh.
It also serves a range of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, biryanis and tandoori dishes.
The new Harrogate restaurant will be open from 5pm until 10pm on weekdays, 4pm until 10pm on Saturdays and 4pm until 9pm on Sundays.
It will be closed on Tuesdays.

Abu's has taken over the former Kinara Tandoori site.
After Abu’s announced on Facebook it would be opening a Harrogate site, the restaurant received a string of unwelcoming comments.
One commentor said Harrogate has “gone to the dogs”, while another posted:
Another restaurant that Harrogate needs, NOT. How about investing in some decent everyday shops?
But Abu’s clarified it had simply taken over the Kinara Tandoori unit, which was also an Indian restaurant, and said its Harrogate site is a replacement, not “another restaurant”.
Responding to the negative comments, Abu’s said on social media:
Some people are hating on us for following our dream and trying to support our family. We have not harmed anyone - we haven’t even opened yet.
However, the post added the Abu’s team also received “some wonderful messages of support, which has [sic] motivated us to continue”.
