Portly Pig to host charity football tournament between Ripon businesses

Indepedent Ripon bar The Portly Pig will host a charity football tournament between the city’s businesses this summer.

The Pig Cup will take place at Ripon City FC’s ground on July 12.

The event aims to bring together up to 16 business teams for a day of community spirit and fundraising.

All proceeds will support two local men’s mental health charities — Andy’s Man Club Ripon and Ripon Men’s Shed — both of which provide spaces for men to connect and support each other.

Organisers emphasise the importance of raising awareness, noting the significant impact of male suicide on families and communities.

Adding to the occasion, several English Football League trophies, including the Carabao Cup, are set to be on display for photo opportunities.

Food, drink and media involvement are also planned, with hopes the Pig Cup will become an annual community fixture.

The tournament will be in a six-a-side format, with each business allowed to enter two teams. Staff and customers are equally welcome to take part.

Teams can enter for £50, which includes a £1 player insurance. Players must be aged over 25.

Businesses are encouraged to register and pay their entry fee by the end of March.

The event will last from 10am to 3pm.
