A Harrogate man and nine of his work colleagues will tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks this Friday (May 22) to help fund research into the disease that claimed his mother’s life.
Stuart Blackwood, a lead consultant at Harrogate-based sales and marketing firm Converta, will be joined by workmates in an attempt to climb Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough in a single day, covering 39km (24 miles) and 1,585m (5,200 feet) of ascent and raising money for the charity Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive lung disease in which scar tissue builds up in the lungs, making them stiff and preventing oxygen from properly passing into the bloodstream.
Mr Blackwood’s mother died from the disease in November 2024.
He told the Stray Ferret:
It was a very hard process for me to personally come to terms with. I decided that the only way that I could ‘let the fizz out’ and do my mother proud was to raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis and see if we could make a difference to people and families that struggle with this horrible disease.
The team has already smashed its £1,500 fundraising target, but is hoping to raise even more.
Mr Blackwood said:
The support I have received is incredible and I feel truly blessed.
I wanted to see if we could gather some more support before the big day and see if we can increase that charity pot to really make the difference Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis needs.
Further donations and support can be given at the team’s JustGiving page.
