Plans to erect a caged batting practice area have been submitted by a local cricket club.
Studley Royal Cricket Club, which formed more than 50 years ago, sent plans to North Yorkshire Council.
The club is seeking approval to construct a three-lane batting practice area, each of which would be covered and partitioned by steel netting, at the Galphay Road ground.
It also proposes to lay a green, artificial carpet on the ground of each lane, which would all be 33 metres by 3.65 metres.

The surface and base construction of the practice area would be “totally porous and permeable”, plans say, adding rainwater would run off via an existing water course.
The bowling and run-up areas would include a load absorbing shock pad beneath the carpet to assist players, while pace modifying shock pads would be installed on the ground of the batting end of the cage.
The practice area is set to be built partly on “expired” practice nets, the application states, adding it would also be constructed on hardstanding at the club.
The Stray Ferret asked Studley Royal Cricket Club how much the proposed scheme would cost, and how it would be funded, as well as when the club hopes work would be completed. We did not receive a response at the time of publication.
The council recently approved plans lodged by Studley Royal Cricket Club to erect ground mounted solar panels on a former batting area.
The club also plays at the nearby deer park ground, which sits in the Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal estate.
