Ripon Market goes ahead despite weather warning

Ripon Market is going ahead today but with only a limited number of traders.

A yellow weather warning for rain is in place until midnight tonight. But despite the poor conditions, some traders — principally those selling fruit and vegetables, fresh fish, cheese and bakery items — have set up their stalls.

The weekly Thursday market, which dates back to the 11th century, is held from about 7.30am to 3pm.

Drier conditions are expected for the weekend but the weather is forecast to remain cool.
