Ripon Racecourse has been named in the top 20 racecourses in the UK.

It ranked 12th in a survey conducted ahead of the Cheltenham Festival, which begins on March 11.

Betting site OLBG Racing graded courses according to their Google search results, ticket prices, social media followers, Tripadvisor reviews and the number of races held throughout the year.

Ripon, known as 'Yorkshire's garden racecourse', averaged a score of 5.85 out of 10. Ascot was top with 7.97.

The study said Ripon has a total of 26,489 followers across Instagram and X and generated around 170,000 Google searches.

It boasts a 4.5-star average Tripadvisor rating and has the cheapest ticket prices out of all of the top 20 courses, with entry starting at £7.

Beverly and Musselburgh ranked second and third respectively with scores of 6.83 and 6.47 respectively, and York was fourth with an average of 6.44. Thirsk, another local course, was 14th with a score of 5.77.

OLBG editor-in-chief Steve Madgwick said:

The study highlights the best racecourses to attend in terms of ticket prices, the number of race days, transport accessibility, review scores, and the added impact that social media presence is holding for UK venues.

Ripon Races kicks off the season on April 17 with its Easter Family Day. The Stray Ferret has reported all of the race dates at the racecourse this season, which you can find here.
