A clumsy cat caused a fire in a Ripon home last night (February 26).

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's overnight incident report said firefighters were called to a property in the city at 10.22pm.

The report said the fire 'was caused when a cat knocked a clothes horse over on to a log burner'.

Firefighters from Ripon attended, but the blaze had been extinguished by the time they arrived.

The crew dampened down the affected area and installed new smoke alarms in the premises.

The fire service added that damage to the property was 'minimal'.
