Body of man in his 60s found in Ripon Canal
Police have found a body of a man in his 60s in Ripon Canal.
In a statement this evening, North Yorkshire Police said officers were called to Boroughbridge Road in the city at 08.41am this morning (September 13) following a report from a member of the public who had discovered a body.
Emmergency services confirmed that a body of a man in his 60s was found in the water.
The force said at this stage there is nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
A police statement said:
Emergency services attended immediately and found the body of a man his 60s in the water.
A scene was established while enquiries were carried out. At this stage, there is nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and a file will now be prepared for the coroner.
Urgent enquiries are currently ongoing to identify and locate the man's next of kin, who we believe may not be in North Yorkshire.
Boroughbridge Road was closed for most of the morning while emergency services and investigators carried out their work, but it has since reopened.
