    Man charged with taking car and crashing it into derelict Knaresborough pub

    A man has been charged with taking a car without the owner’s consent and crashing it into a derelict Knaresborough pub.

    Aaron Herbert, 52, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (October 8) where he spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

    Mr Herbert, of Tyson Place in Harrogate, appeared in court charged with aggravated vehicle taking on April 27, 2025.

    It is alleged that the 52-year-old took a Mercedes Benz CLS without the owner’s consent and crashed it into the former Cricketers pub on Thistle Hill while carrying a female passenger.

    Magistrates adjourned the case for Mr Herbert to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing at York Crown Court on November 9, 2026.
