A police van blocks off Knaresborough Road at its junction with Lancaster Park Road.

There were no fatalities arising from the incident at the weekend when a motocyclist collided with two female pedestrians on Knaresborough Road in Harrogate, police have confirmed.

The incident caused a stretch of Knaresborough Road to be closed to traffic for several hours on Saturday (June 29), and tailbacks slowed progress through the town on roads approaching the Empress roundabout.

It also gave rise to a good deal of speculation online, where several posters claimed that one of the women knocked down had died.

But answering an enquiry from the Stray Ferret today, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:

We can confirm there has been no fatalities.

They also said that the 19-year-old motocyclist arrested at the scene had been released under investigation but had not been charged:

The investigation is ongoing, at this stage, no charges have been brought.

Following the incident, North Yorkshire Police appealed for witnesses or motorists with relevant dashcam footage of the motorcycle to come forward if they hadn't already.

Anyone with relevant information should email Mike.Halstead@northyorkshire.police.uk or call 101 and ask for Mike Halstead. They should quote reference 12250117437 when providing details.
