A Harrogate man who committed two thefts in one day has been jailed.
Dale Lister, 31, appeared at York Magistrates Court on Saturday (January 24), when he admitted one count of failing to surrender to court bail at the appointed time.
Lister previously pleaded guilty to two offences of theft on New Year’s Day.
According to court documents, Lister stole a can of whipping cream, two tubs of sour cream and a Christmas pudding valued at £8.90 from the Co-op on Grantley Drive on December 30 last year.
On the same day, he also stole four packs of Fairy washing up tablets, which were valued at £40, from the same store.
He then failed to return to York Magistrates Court on January 13, having been released on bail on January 1 and required to attend court.
By committing the offences, Lister breached a suspended sentence order, which was activated as part of his sentence.
Lister, of Fairfax Avenue, was jailed for a total of 20 weeks and ordered to pay £40 in compensation.
Court documents say the offences were so serious only a custodial sentence can be justified, and the defendant has a “flagrant disregard for people and their property”.
