Woman admits wounding in Knaresborough
A woman has admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm on another woman in Knaresborough.
Ruby Chandler, 21, of Snowdrop Avenue, appeared before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Thursday (April 30) where she spoke to confirm her name, age and address.
Chandler admitted one count of unlawfully and maliciously wounding a person at a property in Knaresborough on June 3, 2025.
Antony Farrell, prosecuting, told the court the named victim had been “remonstrating” with Chandler on the day of the incident.
The court heard that the victim had been banging on the door of the property until Chandler opened it armed with a kitchen knife.
Mr Farrell said the 21-year-old then “holds it [the knife] to the victim’s neck” before the victim grabs it to pull it away.
He said:
The knife caused deep lacerations between her thumb and forefinger. She has had an operation on her thumb and it has caused a deep impact on her life.
Brian Nuttney, defending, told the court that Chandler had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and was “remorseful” for the incident.
He said Chandler had become concerned with the victim’s behaviour, which included making threats towards her and her family.
Mr Nuttney said the defendant initially ignored the banging on the door until she heard a lighter knock which she thought was a friend.
CCTV of the incident was shown in court.
Mr Nuttney said:
The complainant is shouting at her and making threats to her and her mother and son. The situation goes on for some time. Miss Chandler gives credence to those threats. She makes the stupid mistake to get the knife to make her leave.
Mr Nuttney pointed out that the prosecution was still waiting on medical evidence over the extent of the victim’s injuries.
Magistrates adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for further medical evidence to be received.
Chandler will appear before Harrogate Magistrates Court on July 3, 2026.
