A Harrogate nursery has received an ‘outstanding’ rating in its latest Ofsted report.
Inspectors praised Rigg Farm Montessori Nursery in Beckwithshaw for its “highly ambitious curriculum” in a report that said “children thrive in this highly inviting and stimulating environment".
The report added:
Children are happy and vibrant as they enter the nursery. They show eagerness and enthusiasm about their learning and are very keen to participate in all activities that are available.
Inclusive practice is excellent and the provision for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is exceptional.
The early years setting has almost 30 children in its care and employs 10 members of staff.
The nursery follows the Montessori philosophy of education. Dr Montessori (1871-1952) was an influential pioneer in early childhood education.
Her philosophy focusses on a hands on learning approach where children focus on natural interests and development rather than formal teaching.
At Rigg Farm it means children can choose their own activities under the guidance of teachers and can work inside or outside.
Oftsed Inspectors said “children acquire appropriate skills for their transition to school very well,” and congratulated staff on the way they “present and organise the nursery in a way that supports children's learning".
The nursery was established in 1994 and is open on weekdays from 9.15am-4pm.
Rigg Farm was also rated 'outstanding' in its previous inspection in 2018.
