The veterinary nurse training centre in Harrogate guiding students to success

A veterinary nurse training centre in Harrogate is encouraging vet practices and students to explore what qualifications they can sign up for.
CVTC is an approved training provider, offering a variety of apprenticeships and non-apprenticeship courses, both online and face-face.
It opened its third centre - the first in Harrogate - in autumn 2024 at Adam House, situated on the site of CVS’ newly relocated small animal practice, The Harrogate Vet.
Jackie Evans, founder of CVTC explained:
We are delighted to be opening a third centre, especially in Harrogate. We wanted to offer accessibility to good quality training to students in Yorkshire and the North.

Over 15 years of industry experience
Jackie and co-founder Joanna McEwen were experienced registered veterinary nurses (RVNs) for many years before opening their first training centre in Chester, as sub-contractors to an agricultural college.
In 2019, CVTC became an independent provider, opening its first veterinary nurse approved facility the same year.
Now, the team is comprised of a management and teaching team, internal quality assurers (IQA) and administrators.
Passionate about supporting students along their learning journey, CVTC is immensely proud of its pass rate – which is above the national average – rated excellent by employers and a Good provider by Ofsted.
The courses that CVTC currently offers are:
- Level 2 Certificate in Veterinary Care Support.
- Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing
- Level 5 Diploma Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Practice Nurse).
- Level 5 Diploma Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Emergency and Critical Care).
The aim has always been to make education as accessible as possible, achieved by offering both in-person and online learning.
In-person students can attend the centre only once a week, minimising the disruption to employers.

Conveniently located on Ripon Road for students travelling in from Harrogate, Leeds and beyond, the new Harrogate centre has been fully equipped with modern facilities.
Theory and practical teaching can take place on-site, with students using the latest, industry-leading technology.
Classes are kept small, so that support can be tailored to an individual’s needs, enabling students to flourish.
This decision to cap group numbers to offer a more personal experience has evidently yielded success - the British Veterinary Nursing Association’s (BVNA) Student of the Year 2024 was Ciara Toner, a CVTC student.

Former students have also expressed how beneficial they’ve found studying at CVTV.
One student commented:
CVTC is one of the most welcoming centres I’ve been at. All staff members are happy and incredibly helpful.
Information is provided in a clear way and is easy to understand. The way the topic is presented to us has been done in such a way we are not overwhelmed.
Another added:
Progress is monitored and if help is needed there is an 'open door' feeling where it feels okay and comfortable to seek help and advice on topics.
I really enjoy my time here and look forward to the next few years.
The centre in Harrogate is currently open to students, with courses set to launch in 2025.
Looking ahead, Jackie is keen to collaborate with veterinary practices in the area, and welcome the first cohort of learners.
She added:
We’re growing all the time, expanding what we can offer. If you think about where we’ve been and where we’re going, it’s exciting.
