A council housing company has withdrawn plans for more homes on a site in Great Ouseburn.
Brierley Homes was granted panning permission for nine houses on Branton Lane in 2018.
The scheme, which is called The Paddocks, was due to be built in two phases. The first six houses have already been completed.
However, the company submitted plans to North Yorkshire Council in December 2024 to amend the proposals for the second phase from three homes to seven.
According to the plans, the move would have seen three detached properties replaced with seven dormer bungalows.
The developer said the move would help to offer a “better choice of housing”. It said:
It is felt that the new proposals will offer a better choice of housing on a site which has existing consent for residential development by providing high quality homes along with landscaping and open space.
The proposals will represent an efficient use of land to deliver a residential development which will offer flexible living to meet a variety of lifestyles.
However, the company withdrew the proposal this month. The Stray Ferret understands the firm is now set to proceed with its original permission for three homes.
The move comes as the amended scheme was met with objection from North Yorkshire Council’s housing department.
The department said the site would need to provide 40% affordable housing. It added that in order to gain support, it would require the houses to be a mix of bungalows and terraced properties.
It said:
We would not take a commuted sum; affordable homes are achievable on site.
To gain the support of the housing department we would require 5 of the homes on the whole site a mix of the bungalows and terraced homes.
