What began with a search for the perfect tweed cape has grown into Eleanor Charles, a thriving Yorkshire children’s lifestyle brand.

Founded after mum Katie struggled to find the right design for her daughter, the business now has boutiques in Harrogate and York, and a presence with retailers across the UK, including Harrods.

Its Harrogate boutique combines children’s fashion, footwear and a family-friendly café, creating a destination where families can browse, relax and enjoy spending time together.

A welcoming space for children and adults

For many people, shopping with young children can be challenging, but Eleanor Charles has designed its Harrogate store to make the experience more enjoyable for everyone.

A dedicated play area provides a welcoming space where little ones can explore while parents, grandparents, carers and friends browse the collections, have children’s feet professionally measured or enjoy time in the café, which sits at the heart of the store.

It features a play corner with a padded floor, play kitchen, toy cars, educational toys and a cosy reading den. The thoughtfully designed area gives children somewhere safe and engaging to play, allowing adults to relax over a tea or coffee, catch up with friends or enjoy a leisurely lunch.

Coffee is a particular speciality, with the business investing in a premium Italian coffee machine and carefully sourced beans to create smooth, barista-made drinks. The menu also features freshly blended smoothies, homemade cakes, ice cream milkshakes and lunchtime favourites including jacket potatoes, quiches and soup.

Children’s footwear from first steps to school days

The boutique is also home to a dedicated children’s shoe department, which caters for youngsters from first shoes up to children’s size 5½ (EU 38).

The carefully selected range includes trusted brands such as Start-Rite, Bobux, Froddo, Geox and Primigi, with footwear designed for first walkers, everyday wear, school and the changing seasons.

With the new school year approaching, the back-to-school collection is available now, while the full Autumn/Winter 2026 range will continue arriving over the coming weeks.

Alongside the footwear itself, the store offers a professional children’s shoe-fitting service. Recognising that some youngsters can feel nervous about having their feet measured, staff adapt the experience to suit every child. Measurements can take place in the play corner if preferred, favourite toys are on hand to provide reassurance and child-sized armchairs help make the process feel relaxed and enjoyable.

For older children, choosing new school shoes can become part of a family outing, with many combining a fitting with lunch or a milkshake in the café.

Rewarding loyal customers

The business also rewards returning customers with separate loyalty schemes for its café and shoe department.

Completing a café loyalty card earns a free coffee, while filling a shoe loyalty card gives customers 20 per cent off their next footwear purchase.

Local workers can also take advantage of the Business Brews offer, which allows employees and business owners to buy any regular takeaway coffee for £1.90 between 9am and 10am, and again from 12pm to 2pm, Monday to Friday.

Giving clothes a second life

Alongside expanding its product range, Eleanor Charles has also introduced initiatives designed to make shopping more sustainable.

Its buy-back scheme allows customers to return outgrown Eleanor Charles clothing in good condition in exchange for a credit note worth up to 30 per cent of the original recommended retail price.

Returned garments are then resold on a dedicated pre-loved rail in the Harrogate store, helping extend the life of each garment while making quality children’s clothing more affordable for other families.

The scheme reflects the durability of the brand’s clothing while encouraging a more circular approach to children’s fashion.

Continuing to grow

In just four years, Eleanor Charles has grown from one mother’s search for the perfect tweed cape into an established Yorkshire business with a growing national profile.

Its Harrogate boutique remains focused on creating an enjoyable experience for visitors, bringing together clothing, footwear, expert shoe-fitting, a welcoming café and a dedicated play area under one roof.
