James Farrar has been appointed the chief executive of York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Mr Farrer, who is currently the interim head of paid service and director of economy at the authority, will take up the £124,656 a year role after a recruitment process was carried out.
He will be tasked with leading the authority’s £112 million investment plan for this year and working closely with David Skaith, mayor of York and North Yorkshire.
On his appointment, Mr Farrar said:
Having led the development and negotiation of the devolution deal, I am proud to now have the opportunity to work alongside the mayor to turn this into reality and make a real difference to the communities across York and North Yorkshire.
Success will see all parts of York and North Yorkshire benefit and to achieve that we will need to work locally across the whole area. I am committed to ensuring partnership is embedded in our operating model. Born and raised in the region, I am incredibly passionate about the area and have a deep understanding of the opportunities within York and North Yorkshire.
A start date for Mr Farrar has yet to be determined. A recruitment process for a new directory of economy will now take place.
Meanwhile, Mike Russell, who previously held senior roles at the Tees Valley Combined Authority, has been appointed director of resources at the combined authority.
Mr Russell, whose salary will be up to £105,000, will start his new role on Monday, July 22.
He said:
