Go on a fun day out

The Easter holidays are in full swing, with most schools back on Tuesday, so make the most of the remaining time with a memory-making day out.

From abseiling down a gorge to visiting a farm - there may even be chicks hatching (pictured above) - to learning all about aircraft, there's plenty of inspiration in our seven Easter activities in Yorkshire to keep the whole family entertained article.

Explore a Neolithic site for World Heritage Day

The Thornborough Henges near Ripon are an ancient monument complex of three giant, circular earthworks that, despite stretching over a mile, are easy to miss if you don't know they're there.

The Northern Henge is open to the public and can be toured without a guide, but Friday's guided tour by English Heritage volunteers for World Heritage Day, is a great opportunity to discover the secrets of the South Henge.

Free but booking required, 11am to 12pm or 1pm to 2pm, Friday, April 18, Thornborough Henges, New Lane, West Tanfield, DL8 2RD. Not suitable for wheelchairs, and there are no toilets on site.

Visit Starbeck for free Easter fun

Organised by the Starbeck Christmas Lights Appeal, the Easter Fun Day at Belmont Park offers fun for all the family. There'll be competitions and races, an Easter egg hunt, stalls and refreshments.

The event will be opened by the Charter Mayor of Harrogate, Cllr Chris Aldred, at 12 noon. The first race will be the Chicken Run for the adults, which will be followed by the young children's Bunny Hop, egg and spoon race, and an Easter Egg hunt.

Stalls will include a tombola, cakes and tray bakes, crafts, with games including hook a duck, coconut shy, a lucky dip in a bran tub, raffle and a 50/50 draw. Light refreshments will be served in St. Andrew’s Church Hall.

Each year the team that is made up of just eight volunteers puts on five fundraising events to raise a minimum of £8,000 to keep the tradition of the Starbeck Christmas Lights alive for the people of Starbeck and the many visitors who pass through Starbeck.

Free entry, 12pm to 4pm, Saturday, April 19. Belmont Park, High Street, Starbeck.
