Enjoy an outdoor cinema experience under the stars

Throughout August, visitors to Rudding Park, Harrogate, can enjoy free outdoor film screenings on the Clocktower Lawn. 

The screenings begin at 8pm and feature a mix of classic favourites and crowd-pleasers, with guests invited to relax in deckchairs, available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

This weekend’s screenings include Notting Hill on Friday August 7, Bohemian Rhapsody on Saturday August 8 and The Notebook on Sunday August 9.

An outdoor bar will be serving refreshing spritzes alongside stone-baked pizzas, creating a relaxed summer atmosphere.

Discover the fascinating world of bees

Families can learn more about one of nature’s most important pollinators at the free Busy Bee Trail at Staveley Nature Reserve near Boroughbridge this weekend. 

Running until this Sunday, the self-guided trail takes visitors on a 4km route through the reserve, beginning in the orchard near the car park. 

Along the way, participants can complete 10 activity points, answer bee-themed questions and discover the life cycle of bees and the vital role they play while exploring the reserve’s natural surroundings.

Take part in a day of farming, food and family fun

One of Yorkshire’s longest-running agricultural events, the Ripley Show returns to the grounds of Ripley Castle this Sunday for its 174th year. 

Visitors can expect a traditional celebration of rural life, with livestock and equestrian competitions, horticultural and produce displays, countryside demonstrations, trade stands and family-friendly attractions throughout the day. 

Held annually on the second Sunday in August, the show brings together farmers, local producers, craftspeople and visitors from across the region in the historic setting of Ripley Castle Park.

Browse vintage toys and collectables

The Harrogate Toy and Train Collectors Fair returns to the Pavilions of Harrogate on Sunday, bringing together collectors, traders and enthusiasts for a day dedicated to model vehicles, railways and vintage toys.

Approximately 100 tables will fill the Calder and Derwent rooms, with dealers offering everything from new and vintage diecast models and model trains to Lego sets, kits and collectables. 

Organised by D D Fairs, the event has become a popular fixture for collectors looking to buy, sell and browse a wide range of specialist items, with free parking and refreshments available throughout the day.

Sample local beers and street food

Harrogate Brewing Co is bringing back its annual Summer Beer Festival this weekend, with three days of craft beer, live music and street food at its taproom. 

Visitors can enjoy beers from Harrogate Brewing Co alongside guest breweries including Brass Castle Brewery, Three Brothers Brewing Co and Elvington Brewery. 

The entertainment line-up features live performances from The Reply Band, Sam Crane, Undergroove Band and Ally & Joe Acoustic Duo. Street food vendors, including Loaf n Loaded, Casa Lasagna, Yorkshire Pizza Co and Blake’s Bites, will also be serving food throughout the festival. Live music and food vendors vary between sessions.
