Join a Christmas walk around Swinsty Reservoir

A walk around Swinsty Reservoir is a classic Boxing Day or New Year’s Day activity – on this note, remember to check out our Twixmas (the period between Christmas and New Year’s Day) walks article that will published after Christmas.

But how about getting ahead of the crowd and joining the loop stroll around Swinsty this Saturday instead? Everyone is welcome and there will be mince pies at the end of the organised walk too. Bonus.

Free, 9.30am, December 14, Swinsty Reservoir, Harrogate.

Ripon Spa Gardens is holding its Illuminated Winter Wonderland this weekend.

Taking place from Friday to Sunday, admire the festive light displays, along with carol singing, a snow machine, crafts, and festive food and drink such as mulled wine and hot chocolate.

Santa will also be there saying a hello, much to the kids' delight.

Both events are free but donations are welcome, 2-8pm, December 13-15, Ripon Spa Gardens, 9 Park Street, Ripon, HG4 2AX.

Give your handmade pizza a festive twist

There are so many fun festive activities to do with the kids in the run-up to Christmas. Check out this list for inspiration aplenty.

And one of these is the Santa vs Grinch Pizza Masterclass at The Curious Cow.

Children can learn about making pizza dough with a festive twist, select their toppings including Christmas flavours, watch it cook in the pizza oven, and then take it home with them, or eat it at the pub served with some refreshments.

At the end of the class, all children will be issued a Curious Cow Pizza Master certificate.

£15 per child, booking essential, children cannot be left in the pub alone but adults are welcome to relax somewhere in the venue, 3pm with an approximate finish time of 5pm, The Curious Cow, Killinghall, Harrogate, HG3 2AP.
