Harrogate town centre will start looking rather more colourful this week, thanks to the return of the Floral Summer of Celebration.
The floral trail will return to Harrogate this Friday, July 18, with a series of exhibits celebrating the ‘jewel in Yorkshire’s crown’ that are set to be in place for a minimum of three weeks.
Some of the locations where the floral installations can be found include The Yorkshire Hotel, The Cenotaph, Cross James Street, Beulah Street, Harrogate Theatre, Montpellier Hill, West Park Church, Library Gardens and outside the Nicholls Tyreman site on Albert Street. Hampsthwaite Feast and Show is returning this weekend.
The event, which is organised by volunteers for residents in the village, is held over two days – Friday and Saturday.
It's an annual community event for the village, with Hampsthwaite residents encouraged to attend and participate as well as it being a big draw for visitors.
Activities include a traditional feast fancy dress parade, accompanied by Tewit Youth Band; a sports day with children's races; judging of homegrown fruit and vegetables; a 5km cross-country race on the Saturday (participants will need to sign up beforehand); and will finish with fireworks on Saturday night.

The Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival starts tomorrow, bringing a host of the genre’s best-selling authors and future literary stars to Harrogate.
Taking place over four days at The Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate, the festival programmes more than 100 best-selling UK and international crime authors and features more than 30 events.
It is the world’s largest event dedicated to the celebration of crime fiction and is attended by readers, authors, agents, publishers, editors and fans from around the globe annually.
This year authors competing for the coveted Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year 2025 include Chris Brookmyre, M.W. Craven, Elly Griffiths, Abir Mukherjee, Marie Tierney and Chris Whitaker.

Masham Steam Engine and Fair Organ Rally is set to return this weekend.
The two-day event, which originally started as a fundraiser to save Masham Town Hall, has become one of the Harrogate district summer highlights and this year is in its 58th year.
It will be held in the rally field of Marfield Fields just outside the town, with thousands of people set to attend.
The fair is a celebration of all things steam-powered and is a major draw for enthusiasts of vintage machinery, particularly steam engines, traction engines, and other historical mechanical equipment. It will also feature a wide range of trade stands, entertainment and fun for all the family.
£5 for under 16s, £11 for seniors, £13 for adults and £30 for two adults and two children, from 10am to 5.30pm on July 19, from 10am to 5pm on July 20, Marfield Fields, Masham, HG4 4NX.
This Sunday, Lilypad is hosting a pop-up art sale.
Featuring the work from the private collection of Harrogate artist Christopher Kelly, there will be original oil paintings, watercolours, pastels and etchings for sale, with pieces available to buy from just £5.
