With more than 30 million padel players worldwide, the sport has never been more popular. This is also reflected close to home in Harrogate and the surrounding area, as the rise of the racquet sport has seen an increase in padel clubs in the district.

One of these is Surge on Hornbeam Park Avenue, and this Saturday it is holding a mixed social padel tournament, hosted by Otro Rackets Club.

Watch The Wizard of Oz

The Harrogate Phoenix Players are presenting the timeless classic The Wizard of Oz at Harrogate Theatre from Wednesday to Saturday this week.

The beloved musical tells the enchanting story of Dorothy, who is whisked away to the magical Land of Oz. Joined by her friends Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, she embarks on a quest to find her way home, discovering the true meaning of friendship and courage along the way.

With memorable songs, vibrant costumes and captivating performances, it's perfect for audiences of all ages. But be quick; some tickets have already sold out.

From £23, 7.30pm March 26-29 and a matinee performance at 2.30pm on March 29, 6 Oxford Street, Harrogate, HG1 1QF.

Ripon Cathedral is holding its Spring Food, Home and Garden Fair on Saturday.

The day will be filled with food and drink to buy, home furnishings and garden plants and accessories, while there will be four local singing groups who will be performing throughout the day.

In the morning there will be a ‘What to Do in Your Garden’ talk from Cathy Kitchingman and Georgina Bordewich, then after lunch a reading from Reggie from the Hedgie storybook and finally, in the afternoon, the Ripon Cathedral Flower Guild will be doing a demonstration on how to use seasonal flowers and foliage to create spectacular arrangements.

Free for under 16s, £6.13 per adult, 10am-4pm, March 29, Liberty Court House, Minster Road, Ripon, HG4 1QT.

Celebrate Mother’s Day

This Sunday is Mother’s Day, so treat your mum or your mothering figure to a gift from one of the many shops in the district, a big bouquet from an independent florist, or a meal at a local restaurant.

There are also lots of events taking place, including two Mamma Mia!-themed events at Banyan, a Molton Brown Mother’s Day-themed brunch and another Mamma Mia!-themed singalong event at Mama Doreen’s.
