Sample a variety of cheeses at the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival

Taking place over the course of four days, the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival will celebrate the county’s rich cheesemaking tradition, set against the beautiful backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales.

The annual event in Leyburn will showcase a wide array of locally produced cheeses, from crumbly Wensleydale to tangy blue varieties, alongside a selection of artisanal foods, drinks, and crafts.

The festival will also feature tastings, cheese-making demonstrations, and the opportunity to meet the farmers and producers behind their delectable creations.

Free, 10am-4pm, October 11-14, various locations throughout the National Park.

Go to a comedy and gin night

Harrogate Theatre might be running its comedy festival, but there’s also comedy happening elsewhere in town.

Take the Gin & Comic comedy night at Spofforth Village Hall, for example. Featuring three comedians and a compere, attendees can laugh out loud while sipping their favourite gin at this event. It’s just the tonic for a good night out.

Listen to a choral concert

Harrogate Male Voice Choir will be performing a joint concert with The Ryelarks, a female voice choir from Pickering, at Starbeck Methodist Church on Saturday.

The two choirs who regularly collaborate will be opening the winter programme of events at the church. Refreshments will also be served during the interval.

Attend Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival

Raworths Harrogate Literature Festival is taking place from October 10-20.

Featuring best-selling authors, influential politicians, historians, journalists, comedians and stars of the screen, including former Prime Minister Theresa May, it’s a key event in Harrogate not to be missed this autumn.

Theresa May will take to the stage on Thursday, followed by etiquette coach William Hanson and journalist Ros Atkins on Friday.

Sunday will see wine expert Tom Surgey and former doctor Adam Kay discuss their latest book releases.

Learn to knit wool using the Fair Isle technique

If you’ve ever wondered how to knit Fair Isle, this workshop in Knaresborough is the perfect opportunity.

Hosted by Judith from knitting inspo site Needlecase, the course is aimed at knitters ready for a new challenge in their knitting journey and will start by exploring stranding and weaving techniques and reading patterns. You can then choose two colours and begin knitting a cushion that you can take home with you to finish off.
