View landscapes by a local painter

Well-known Harrogate artist Emerson Mayes presents his largest collection of landscapes in nearly a decade at a new solo exhibition.

The award-winning painter is perhaps better known for his printmaking, but Return to the Land showcases his mastery of oils.

The exhibition features more than 20 paintings depicting local scenes such as the River Nidd (as seen above) and Scar House, as well as those further afield in North Yorkshire, Northumberland, Cumbria and Scotland.

Free, 11am-5pm, Wednesday to Saturday until September 21, Watermark Gallery, Royal Parade, HG1 2SZ.

The Harrogate Autumn Flower Show held at Newby Hall, near Ripon.

Celebrate the year’s floral splendour

Join thousands of expected visitors at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show held at Newby Hall, Ripon, to browse and get inspired by displays of beautiful flowers and spectacular produce.

Staged by the North of England Horticultural Society (NEHS), the show will feature the National Dahlia and Chrysanthemum Northern Championships as well as the popular giant fruit and veg competitions. There’ll also be live talks, demos and gardening advice from the experts.

Tickets £23 online or £28 on the door, includes access to the estate’s gardens, September 13-15, Newby Hall, Ripon, HG4 5AE.

If you’re interested in holistic living, the Heath and Healing Festival taking place at Pavilions of Harrogate is the event to attend this weekend. Be inspired by talks, demonstrations and workshops and find out new ways of dealing with life’s challenges.

Go on a Yarn Trail across North Yorkshire

Now in its third year and growing each year, the Yarn Trail is once again bringing together 13 independent yarn shops for its initiative.

Collect a map and a special yarn passport that you can get stamped as you go along the route from one of the participating yarn shops across the county and visit as many of the stores as possible over the two-week period.

September 14-29, shops across North Yorkshire.

Go to a family-friendly adrenaline-fuelled show

Offering a circus with a difference, be welcomed into Planet Circus’ big top tent where you’re bound to be in awe of the performers who put on a performance to remember.

With everything that you would expect from a traditional circus but with a modern twist and thrilling stunt action, your jaw might just be on the floor with some of the acts.
