Another arrest in Ripley cattle theft investigation
A 70-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a police investigation into cattle theft in Ripley.
Seven cows were stolen on Sunday night (July 26) from Newton Hall farm in the village.
North Yorkshire Police said yesterday (July 30) it had recovered the animals and arrested a man in his 30s from the West Yorkshire area on suspicion of burglary.
In a further update today, officers said the man had been bailed with conditions, including restrictions on entering North Yorkshire except for specified reasons.
They also said a 70-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary with intent to steal and remains in police custody.
Enquiries remain ongoing.
A police statement added:
We're pleased to report that all the cattle are fit and well. Five have now been returned to their owners, with two still undergoing identification checks.
The owners are extremely grateful to have them back.
The owners told us they were devastated at the loss of the cows, which were worth around £17,500.
