A peaceful anti-government gathering, which was held in Ripon yesterday lunchtime (Saturday) saw fewer than 50 protesters on Minster Road.
Ripon was one of 76 cities across the UK that hosted gatherings as part of what was known as the Great British National Strike.
Protestors calling for Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to resign organised the gatherings to make their feelings known on this and other issues.
These included illegal immigration, objection to net zero policies, the impact of inheritance tax on family-run farms, a demand for an inquiry into rape gangs and attacks on freedom of speech.
Ahead of yesterday's event, which brought heated debate on local social media, Richard Donaldson, the national organiser of the Great British National Strike, told the GB News channel that attendance at any of the gatherings across the UK was open to any legal British citizen.
Josh Ramsbottom (centre) is pictured with fellow Ripon residents Charlie and Dave Noble who, like him, call for fair treatment of immigrants.
Ripon resident Josh Ramsbottom who was among those who attended to counter-protest by showing support for immigrants coming to the UK, carried a home-made sign with the message 'More Immigrants Fewer Fascists'
He told the Stray Ferret:
I beleive that immigrants are being unfairly targeted by these kind of events and I wanted to speak up on their behalf.
