A police inspector has pledged officers will take “robust” action with young troublemakers in Boroughbridge after an increase in antisocial behaviour.
Insp Holly Nicholls and Sergeant Steve Dougall gave an overview of current policing challenges and initiatives in the Harrogate area to members of North Yorkshire Council’s Harrogate and Knaresborough area committee last week.
The Stray Ferret reported on some of the issues facing Harrogate here.
Focusing on the outer Harrogate area, Insp Nicholls said Boroughbridge had been a source of particular concern recently, with 25 reports of nuisance behaviour in the last 90 days.
She added:
We do have a number of young people in that location that are causing us quite a challenge.
Insp Nicholls said police, councillors and youth workers had instigated a problem-solving plan that involved “being robust with individuals”.
She added there had been a “massive drop in anti-social behaviour” in Knaresborough over the last 18 months.
Insp Nicholls attributed this largely due to the implementation of a problem-solving plan for Knaresborough House, which she said had been “targeted significantly for criminal damage”.
Insp Nicholls also highlighted an increase in anti-social vehicle use around the Stockwell estate.
Elsewhere, she said pony and trap races on the A168 had caused “significant disruption at Dishforth”.
Police had launched Operation Tracksuit in Tockwith and Green Hammerton in response to a series of burglaries and thefts from vehicles. She said an “unknown group” visited the area monthly and tried door handles.
