Former England football team manager and local resident Gareth Southgate is among those recognised in the King’s New Year’s Honours list, which has been published tonight.
More than 1,200 people have received honours across a range of sectors, including sport, charity, education, healthcare and business.
Mr Southgate, who lives in Swinsty near Harrogate, received a knighthood for services to football and charity, including his support for the Prince’s Trust.
He retired as England manager after eight years in the role in July. It followed the Three Lions’ defeat by Spain in the EUFA Euro 2024 final.
Stuart Carlton, North Yorkshire Council’s £155.296-a-year corporate director for children’s services, has also been awarded a knighthood for services to children, young people and families.
Mr Carlton, a qualified social worker, said:
Like all these awards, it’s built on a long career of service and the hard work and dedication of many other people that I have been truly privileged to work alongside.
