An artist's impression has been revealed for a planned new care and support hub in Harrogate.

North Yorkshire Council is set to create five new hubs across the county as part of a £60 million scheme to tackle increased demand in the care sector.

The facilities, which would be owned by the council, will be built at locations around the county to meet demand, with the first to be opened in the Harrogate and Scarborough areas.

The location of the Harrogate hub has yet to be revealed.

This week, the authority launched a two-week consultation into the hubs ahead of a planning application being submitted.

An artist's impression of the facilities in both Harrogate and Scarborough were also revealed.

If approved, the hubs will provide specialist residential dementia care as well as short-term support for people leaving hospital, helping to reduce avoidable re-admissions and speed up rehabilitation.

Councillor Michael Harrison, the council’s executive member for health and adult services, said:

We are facing significant challenges across North Yorkshire with rising demand and increasing costs in adult social care.

These proposed new hubs will help us to continue to deliver the best standard of care and support at crucial moments in people’s lives, while also generating long-term savings for the council and taxpayers.

We are excited about the positive, lasting impact that these hubs can have. I would encourage residents in Harrogate and Scarborough to look at the proposals and make the most of the consultation by sharing their feedback.

As part of the proposals, each hub would include lounges, quiet rooms and dining areas, as well as assisted bathrooms, en-suite bedrooms, dedicated areas for physical and occupational therapy, and accessible outdoor spaces.

Council officers say the hubs would significantly reduce the requirement for one-to-one support and reduce the reliance on expensive specialist provision in the independent care market.

They would also provide care for people released from hospital and in need of bed-based help, with specialist reablement and rehabilitation support available.

Meanwhile, community drop-in events will be held in each town to give residents the opportunity to view the plans and speak directly with the project team.

The Harrogate event will take place between 3pm and 6pm on Monday, March 23, at Bilton Club on Skipton Road, Harrogate.
