An Asian café has reopened this week after relocating to the centre of Harrogate.

65 Degrees, which initally opened on East Parade in 2022, is the newest addition to Westminster Arcade on Parliament Street.

The unit's bigger kitchen has enabled the café to expand its menu to include a wider range of Korean and Japanese dishes.

The former site limited the business to basic Asian-style sandwiches and cakes.

The venue has now developed its menu to include hot dishes from Hong Kong-style satay beef soup noodles to Japanese pan fried dumplings.

The café now sells treats such as smoothies and shaved ice bowls alongside its best-selling soufflé pancake and bubble waffle dishes.

The café claims to be the only establishment in Harrogate serving the dishes.

Owners Joseph Kwok, Barry Leung and Roy Ho moved to Harrogate from Hong Kong around three years ago and wanted to bring authentic Asian cuisine to the town.

The name of the café derives from the optimum temperature for steaming milk when making coffee.

Mr Kwok said:

It is a historic building, and we have nice neighbours, it is busy, and we are enjoying it.

It is a bigger space, and we have got more Asian cuisine on the menu, things that are common in local cafés in Hong Kong. People are enjoying the new menu and waffles are still our best seller.

The Stray Ferret recently reported on how some businesses in the arcade faced challenges, including limited footfall.

But Mr Kwok said the arcade's more central location had increased footfall compared to the more isolated position of their original premises.

He said:

We have been busier since moving. Half of our customers are loyal and half are tourists, it gets busy on Fridays, Saturdays and lunchtimes.

One loyal customer is Harrogate and Knaresborough MP Tom Gordon who often visits on Saturdays after a run.

Mr Gordon posted on X, congratulating 65 Degrees. He said:

I am sure the soufflé pancakes will remain a firm favourite for me.
