Bettys and Taylors releases latest annual accounts
Bettys and Taylors achieved record turnover but operating profit declined in newly published accounts for the financial year ending October 31, 2025.
The Harrogate-based company, which has five cafe tearooms, an online business, a craft bakery and produces a range of teas inclusing Yorkshire Tea, reported revenue grew by 2% from £319.2 million in 2024 to £325.7 million in 2025.
However, operating profit declined by 5% from £29.2 million to £27.7 million.
The number of staff increased from 1,612 to 1,635 and remuneration of the highest paid director went up from £458,000 to £542,000.
The strategic report that accompanied the accounts described the trading year as 'positive' despite reduced footfall in stores and rising material costs, which led to the market price of coffee reaching a record high.
"In response, we increased selling prices for both Taylors of Harrogate and own label coffee," the report says.
Yorkshire Tea increased its position within the UK black tea market, gaining a 41.6% share of the sector.
But tearoom customer numbers fell by 3% and US market sales suffered a £3.4 million reduction.
The report says the decrease is primarily “due to a result of changes to terms with a key supplier, combined with uncertainty resulting from the evolution of import tariffs".
The UK market contributed £304.4 million to the overall £325.7 million turnover.
The year also saw the release of Yorkshire Tea Iced, which is a cold tea made with Yorkshire Gold loose-leaf tea, and Cheesy Rascals, s savoury alternative to Fat Rascals.
