Every Monday, the Stray Ferret publishes a round-up of sports action in the Harrogate district. We will focus on the first team results of local amateur and semi-professional sports clubs. Here's what happened during the week of October 13 to 19.
Harrogate Railway
The Rail played two matches last week, winning 1-0 in the league at home to Brigg Town and losing 3-0 away to Nelson FC in the first round of the FA Vase. Elliot Holmes scored Harrogate’s only goal against Brigg in the 25th minute. Ben Parkes was named player of the match.
Having played three less games than league leaders Dearne and District, the Rail have slipped to third place in the NCEL Division One. They have 36 points from 15 games in the league.

Knaresborough Town
The Boro’ also played two fixtures last week, winning 4-2 in the league cup second round against Thackley, and losing 2-0 in the league against third placed Beverley Town. Luke Stewart, Slater Barkham-Barnes and Ben Gelder x2 got on the scoresheet for Knaresborough against Thackley, while Alex Washington and Luke Brooks scored for the away side. Knaresborough are 10th in the NCEL Premier Division with 19 points from 16 games.
Ripon City
Ripon continued their fine start to the season with a narrow 1-0 win over Carlton Athletic. An own goal was the difference between the two sides as Carlton Athletic saw their team reduced to 10 men in the first half. City are currently third in the West Yorkshire Association Football League (WYAFL) with 27 points from their first 11 games. They are four points behind unbeaten league leaders Littletown.Harlow Hill

Harrogate Town Women did not have a game last week.

Knaresborough continued their perfect start to the season with a 1-0 win over Sherburn White Rose. Cass Lane scored the goal, and Chloe Hickson was awarded player of the match after returning from a six-week injury absence. Having won all five of their first five games, Knaresborough are second in the West Riding County Women’s League (WRCWL) Premier Division.
Harrogate Railway
Harrogate Railway did not have a game last week: instead the club took on a sponsored walk to help fund training facilities.
Boroughbridge
Boroughbridge got their first league win of the season on Sunday after a strong 4-0 win away at Brayton Belles. The result gives the Bridge a much needed three points to take them off the bottom of the table. With three points in four games, Boroughbridge find themselves in eighth place in the WRCWL Division One. They are level on points with Brayton Belles, who have an inferior goal difference, and a point ahead of Field.

Harrogate Rugby Club
Harrogate hit their stride on Saturday, putting eight tries past Driffield in a 46-22 win. Charlie Head scored two alongside tries from Amrit Sharma, Junior Nuu, Kristian Dobson, Thomas Steene, William Hill, and a first for player-manager Jake Brady. Rory Macnab struck three conversions. Harrogate are third in the Regional 1 North East League with 26 points from their first six games. They travel to league leaders Heath this Saturday (October 25).
Ripon Rugby Club
Ripon recorded a dominant 47-0 win at home to Northallerton on Saturday. Try scorers included Thomas Graham, Elliot Davies Taylor and Allan Hudson. Morgan Clark converted all six. Ripon are sixth in the Counties 2 Yorkshire League, with 12 points from five games.
Knaresborough Rugby Club
Knaresborough got their second win of the season on Saturday, beating Aireborough 26-12 at home. Jed Gowland’s side remain fifth in the Counties 4 Yorkshire North League, with 11 points after six games. They are level on points with Leeds Medics and Dentists, but have an inferior points difference.
Harrogate Pythons
Harrogate Pythons beat Beverley 29-17 at home on Saturday. Harry Butler scored a hattrick of tries, with Tom Roberts adding a fourth. Ben Pryor converted four times, including a penalty. The Pythons have moved up a place to eighth in the Counties 1 Yorkshire League, with 12 points from their first five games.

Harrogate suffered their second defeat of the season, losing 5-2 away at Sheffield University Bankers on Saturday. A Charles Edmondson brace wasn’t enough for Harrogate, as Shen Wei Lim, Ben Davis, Edward Thomas x2 and Will Hearne all got on the scoresheet for Sheffield. Harrogate have dropped down to sixth place in the Yorkshire & North East Open Men's Premier Division, having amassed 10 points from six games.

Harrogate extended their losing streak to three with a 3-2 loss at home to Durham University’s fourth team. Evelyn Wright and Hannah Burt got on the scoresheet for Harrogate, while Emily Gibbins x2 and Elena Bensi secured all the points for Durham. Harrogate remain at the bottom of Yorkshire & North East Women's Premier Division, having picked up one win from six games.
Ripon Rockets
Ripon Rockets continued their perfect start to the season on Tuesday (October 14) with a 46-40 win over Galaxy. They sit at the top of the NYNAL Senior Winter League Division One with 20 points, having won all four games.
Harrogate Phoenix
Harrogate Phoenix lost 46-38 against Claro Netball on Monday (October 13). They are currently bottom of the NYNAL Senior Winter League Division One, having lost all four games.

Claro Netball beat Harrogate Phoenix 46-38 on Monday. They sit second in the NYNAL Senior Winter League Division One, with 16 points from four games. They have won three and lost one.
