Bollards have been installed at Ripon's Lark Hill Cemetery to prevent drivers from causing further accidental damage to lawned areas where ashes are interred.
The areas, where tyre tracks could be seen, have been re-seeded after city council leader Andrew Williams contacted North Yorkshire Council's bereavement services department.
He told the Stray Ferret:
The damage has now been repaired
This was accidental demage caused by the fact that the road that runs through the middle of the cemetery is narrow and some drivers were inadvertently going onto the grass.
I'm pleased that the repair works, including re-seeding, have been carried out and the bollards installed by the council will hopefully resolve this matter.
There is still vehicular access to the cemetery and its designated parking areas and the bollards can be removed as required when funerals are taking place.
Drivers can still access the cemetery and park in designated areas.
