A Boroughbridge man has been sentenced for attempting to engage in sexual activity in front of a child.
Chris Chapman, 44, appeared at York Magistrates Court on Tuesday (October 21) for the sentencing hearing.
He last month admitted attempting to engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Chapman, whose address is listed in Boroughbridge, committed the crimes between September 23, 2024, and October 3, 2024, for sexual gratification.
He knew the child was aware he was engaging in sexual activity, court documents say.
They add he intended to encourage the child to engage in sexual communication.
Chapman was handed an 18-month community order, during which he must complete up to 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
He is required to register with the police for the next five years and was made subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
Chapman is prohibited from using any device capable of accessing the internet unless, for example, he notifies the police within three days and allows them to install 'risk management monitoring software' if required.
He was also ordered to pay a total of £199 to the court.
