Yorkshire Agricultural Society, organisers of the four-day Great Yorkshire Show, have announced a new society manager.
The CEO of the Driffield Agricultural Society, David Tite, will take over from current manager Mark Stoddart, who is moving on to become the Secretary of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association.
After this year’s Great Yorkshire Show, David will join CEO Allister Nixon and new Show Director Rachel Coates to ensure the Great Yorkshire Show remains exciting, relevant and a key national event.
Mr Tite began working at the Driffield Showground over 30 years ago after clearing the site as a 13-year-old.
He said:
This is a fantastic next step for me and whilst I’m saddened to leave Driffield this was an opportunity not to be missed and I’m looking forward to joining a great team and working on the Great Yorkshire Show amongst the other events held on the Showground.
Allister Nixon said:
We are delighted to welcome David with his wealth of show experience from another highly respected agricultural society. It is a testament to both Mark and David that they are deeply committed to delivering the Great Yorkshire Show and the Driffield Show before moving into their new roles.
Barking George
Harrogate’s Barking George is in the running to be crowned the UK’s best town centre pub this September, after making the shortlist of six at the 2024 Great British Pub Awards.
The annual competition aims to reward and recognise the nation's finest pubs. Barking George is the only contender in the category in the north of England.
The event will be held in Manchester in September.
General manager Henry White said:
I couldn’t be prouder to have Barking George make the shortlist of a very well-respected competition in the industry. It’s been quite a year since we reopened last summer, and this is just a wonderful way to bring those 12 months to a close.
We launched to a big fanfare and there was a lot of focus on us with Barking George and The Harrogate Inn marking such a step away from what Hotel St George was about and I’m thankful the people of Harrogate and beyond have taken to the refurbishment.
We’re now eagerly awaiting our judging visit later in the summer so we can show our assessor everything special about the bar, from the food, drink and our brilliant team, to our amazing customers and the fabulous atmosphere they bring to Barking George.

Ringway has hailed the impact of its first fully electric highways maintenance vehicle, six months after reaching UK’s first agreement with leading UK manufacturer Econ Engineering.
The E-QCB (Electric Quick Change Body) was purchased at the start of this year following a successful trial and has been put to work across Hertfordshire.
Responsible for managing over 43,300kms of the UKs highways network, Ringway is the first within its sector to pilot and then put into fleet fully electric vehicles.
Mitesh Solanki, managing director at Ringway, said:
Given the growing importance of the Environment in our sector, we are keen to promote the adoption of electric vehicles within our business where we can. After evaluating available options, we determined that the E-QCB solution on a Volvo 19.0t chassis, would provide the greatest flexibility and emerged as an ideal platform, allowing us to pioneer a unique vehicle in the UK, further advance our learning in zero tail pipe emission commercial vehicles and transition away from diesel fuel.
The E-QCB utilises the very latest in sustainable technology and be utilised in zero emission zones.
Its QCB technology enables the bodywork to be switched between gritter, tipper or caged body modes, with easy transformation taking no longer than 15 minutes.
Econ Engineering supplies gritters, hot boxes and tippers to hundreds of local councils and contractors, spanning the length and breadth of the UK.
Managing director, Jonathan Lupton said:
Econ has enjoyed a long-term strategic fleet partnership with Ringway and we were delighted when they took the bold decision to go electric with delivery of the very first E-QCB.
