A stretch of Cold Bath Road in Harrogate is closed until next week for electricity works.
The road is closed around its junction with Valley Drive, which is also closed to traffic.
Workers are installing ducting under the road surface as part of Northern Powergrid’s 33Kv scheme – a high-voltage project designed to move electricity efficiently between main substations around Harrogate, so it can then be distributed at lower voltages to homes and businesses.
Traffic is being diverted for the duration of the roadworks.
The work, which is being carried out for Northern Powergrid by contractor Balfour Beatty, is expected to take about seven days.
The official road closure notice said the restriction would be in place for a five-day period between April 14 and 18 inclusive, but according to a spokesperson for Northern Powergrid, the work was delayed.
The footpaths are still open.
They said:
The delay to the Cold Bath Road works was due to an unexpected water leak on Cornwall Road, which had to be addressed first.
It has been coordinated to be done in the school holidays to minimise disruption.
