A charity fire walk is set to take place in Harrogate this weekend.

Local volunteers plan to walk barefoot across a bed of red-hot embers to support bone cancer patients.

The feat will take place at the Cedar Court Hotel on Saturday, March 9 at 6pm to raise money for Bone Cancer Research Trust, a national charity based in Leeds that supports patients and funds research. It hopes the event will raise £6,000.

Anyone aged 14 or older can sign up to take part and will receive full training from a professional fire walker before stepping on the coals.

Leah Holmes, challenge events fundraising officer at the trust, said:

“We are bringing our firewalk challenge to Harrogate this March as we have many supporters in the area.
"Our aim is to find kinder, more effective treatments for future patients by investing in much-needed research."

Pagi Batkhuyag, events manager at Cedar Court Hotels Group, said:

"We think it is an amazing event and it is raising money for an important cause."

    Hotel manager Oliver Stott added:

"The firewalk is a testament to pushing boundaries, embracing challenges and making lasting memories. We're thrilled to be a part of this incredible event once again, offering our space for a night filled with courage, community and most off all, hope."

The event is only the second fire walk the trust has hosted. The first was in Kidderminster last year, which raised £8,000.

Taking part costs £20 and you can do so here.
