Demonstrators will call for the closure of RAF Menwith Hill tonight (February 24).
Protestors will meet at the main gates of the American spy base near Harrogate at 6pm as part of a global day of action calling for the closure of military bases.
The calls for closure are being co-ordinated by the global anti-war organisation World Beyond War.
It claims military bases often perpetuate colonialism, cost too much to run, exacerbate environmental damage and make local communities targets for attack.
Activist Martin Schweiger, who is among those supporting tonight’s peaceful protest, said
“There is a lot of harm created by foreign military bases at great financial cost. People are most welcome to join us at the gates of Menwith Hill on Tuesday evening.”
