North Yorkshire Council has said it is in discussions with the tenant of The Wicked Wolf bar in Harrogate.

The bar, which opened in December, closed suddenly last weekend.

It had been running an ‘eat for free’ promotion but then sent an email to customers stating that the venue would be closed until further notice.

The email said the temporary closure was due to “major issues with our kitchen that we are unable to solve at present”.

The company has not replied to our requests for comment since.

It was still closed when the Stray Ferret visited on Monday and remained closed when we turned up at lunchtime today. One of the bins in the garden was unemptied, and a rogue pint glass sat upright in one of the plant pots.

However, the bar posted on Facebook today saying that its ‘dayclubbers event’ will go ahead as planned on May 3.

The bar is located in the grade two listed Royal Baths, which is owned by North Yorkshire Council.

We asked the council if the tenancy was still active. Director of resources Gary Fielding said:

We are in discussions with the tenant of the Wicked Wolf. They still occupy the unit, and we understand they have no intention of ending the tenancy.

We also asked the council what was happening at the former Viper Rooms, which is also located in the Royal Baths.

We reported in January that the council had accepted an offer for a new tenant to occupy the venue but, three months on, there seems to have been no progress.

Mr Fielding said:

An offer has been received from a tenant to occupy the unit that formerly housed the Viper Rooms in Harrogate’s Royal Baths building.

There has been a delay in completing the legal agreements, but we aim to move this forward as soon as possible.

We will continue to provide updates when available.
