Roadworks have become a familiar sight across the district.

A list of Harrogate's forthcoming roadworks has been compiled by North Yorkshire Council.

The document, which was sent to councillors and has been seen by the Stray Ferret, reveals there will be a Christmas embargo on planned works on strategic routes into and out of Harrogate and Knaresborough from November 24 to January 5, although any safety-critical works will still go ahead.

This is the programme of works as it currently stands:

Northern Powergrid, 33KV scheme

Otley Road – road closure. Rescheduled to start January 2026, dates to be confirmed.

Knaresborough Road – junction of Oatlands Drive to the Empress roundabout: currently underway and due to complete on Friday, October 3. Temporary lights are manned 7am to 7pm.

Leeds Road – junction with Trinity: October 3 to 13. Temporary lights will be manned 7am to 7pm.

Leeds Road – August 11 to September 5. This section is complete. Northern Powergrid will be returning to complete a small section at Trinity Road and St George's roundabout using temporary lights, but this will not start until Knaresborough Road is clear.

York Place – October 23 to November 19. Work will start on the bridge near Stray Rein, under a lane closure. There will be further works at this location in January 2026; the dates are to be confirmed.

Scheme 2: Swan Road and slightly on the A61 and to the substation on Trafalgar Road.

Scheme 3: Road to the rear of Beechwood Crescent along Cold Bath Road to Valley Drive.

Scheme 4: A joint bay on Portland Crescent and a joint bay on King's Road.

Scheme 5: Crescent Road, Kings Road, Parliament Street, Ripon Road.

Harrogate Spring Water scheme

Penny Pot Lane, Cornwall Road – November 24 to January 9. Temporary lights will be in place and will be manned 7am to 7pm.

Hookstone Drive – Ongoing work is due for completion on October 10.

Tesco S278 highway works
