Police are investigating after a "dangerously out of control" dog bit someone who was trying to defend their own dog.
The incident happened on the footpath next to the park on Trefoil Drive, which is in the Killinghall Moor area of Harrogate, last Monday (May 4).
A large, ginger-coloured Labrador cross was let off the lead and ran to attack the victim’s dog. When the victim fell to the ground, he was bitten by the Labrador when he tried to fend it off.
Appealing for information, North Yorkshire Police said:
Do you have any information which would assist North Yorkshire Police in finding those responsible and help keep your community safe?
Did you or anyone who you live with, hear, or see anything around the above time and date?
Do you have any CCTV coverage capturing the offence, or anything happening in the area before or after?
Do you have a vehicle with a dash-cam parked in the area?
Anyone who thinks they may be able to help can contact Constable 1222 David Fulford at david.fulford@northyorkshire.police.uk, quoting reference 12260080918.
According to the response to a freedom of information request published today, the number of incidents in North Yorkshire involving injury caused by an out-of-control dog has increased by nearly 50% over the last five years, from 300 in 2020 to 444 in 2025.
Over that period, the total number of offences recorded was 2,373. Of those, just 67 resulted in someone being charged, and eight people were cautioned.
