BAFTA-winning director Danny Boyle will take over Fountains Abbey to shoot his latest film next week.

A letter, seen by the Stray Ferret, has been sent to volunteers at the National Trust site inviting them to assist.

It does not divulge details of the film but suggests the park will remain open to the public while filming takes place.

The email says volunteers will work alongside the film crew to “answer visitors' questions” and “ensure they know where they can and can’t go” during takes.

Filming is expected to take place from Monday, July 8, to Wednesday, July 10.

The Stray Ferret contacted Premier Communications, which is dealing with press enquiries about the film, for more information. However, we did not receive a response.

But it appears post-apocolyptic horror 28 Years Later – the third film in Boyle’s 28 Days Later franchise – could be coming to the Ripon area.

The original 2002 film told the story of life in London following an outbreak of a deadly virus, which turns those affected into aggresive killers. The few remaining survivors had to seek sanctuary among the turmoil.

ITV News yesterday reported the decorated director and Killing Eve star Jodie Comer were spotted in Rothbury, Northumberland, as filming got underway.

According to IMDB, Cillian Murphy, who this year took home the Academy Award for Best Actor for his leading role in Oppenheimer, is among the star-studded cast. He starred in the original and is now an executive producer for the sequel.

Ralph Fiennes, who is starring in a separate production filmed Harrogate last month, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jack O’Connell will also feature.

Boyle, 67, has received a myriad of awards for his work over the years, directing hits such as the Trainspotting films, Slumdog Millionaire and Shallow Grave.

28 Years Later is set to be released in the UK next June, as reported by NME in May.
