Liberal Democrat councillor Bill Hoult has died after a short illness.
Mr Hoult was a county, borough and Knaresborough town councillor over many years.
He lived in Knaresborough and served in many roles on various councils across the district and also worked as a surveyor.
Mr Hoult, who died on January 13, was Mayor of Knaresborough in 1989-90, Mayor of Harrogate 2010-11 and the leader of the Liberal Democrats group at North Yorkshire Council.
He served on North Yorkshire County Council for 20 years from 1997 to 2017, on Harrogate District Council for 19 years and on Knaresborough Town Council from 1987.
He was elected as an honorary alderman to Harrogate Borough Council in 2014 and to North Yorkshire Council in 2017 in recognition of his service to both local authorities.
He undertook several organisational roles for the Lib Dems and was passionate about Knaresborough in particular and actively involved in many groups and organisations within the town, including in the Chain Lane Community Hub and Knaresborough & District Men's Forum.
Mr Hoult's daughter contacted us to say everyone is welcome at the funeral, which takes place at 1pm on Friday, February 2 at St John the Baptist Church in Knaresborough.
