A developer has applied to alter the dimensions of a proposed block of flats in Harrogate, despite having already been granted planning permission.

The Stray Ferret previously reported that permission had been granted to demolish the St George’s Sport and Social Club, on St George’s Road.

The club was previously used as a sport and social club and a dance club.

The planning application, which was accepted in early 2022, authorised 14 flats to be erected in its place. Consent was also dependent on the provision of a replacement building on the same site for the use of St George's Dance Club and other community groups.

Three years on, the applicant has applied to alter the original proposed dimensions of the flats.

The proposed changes would increase the height and the width, on both sides of the building, by 75 centimetres. This would allow room for two dormer windows to be added on the east side of the building.

Four new balconies would also be added to the east side.

The current approved materials for the flats are artificial stone and render, and Spanish slate. The revised application wishes to replace the stone and render with bricks, and the Spanish slate with tiles.

The current applicant is J&G Developments Yorkshire Ltd. However, in our previous report, three years ago, the relevant planning documents stated that Mitre Residential LLP was the applicant.

Mitre Residential had previously said in 2022 that the proposed development would “replace facilities that are no longer required but still provide a viable club for members who have shown an interest in maintaining the facilities".

The new application currently has one letter of objection, from a resident concerned about its “excessive height and overbearing impact".

North Yorkshire Council aims make a decision on the plan by May 28.
