Roosters in Hornbeam Park, Harrogate is known locally and beyond for its brewery and taproom. The company was established more than 30 years ago in 1993 and remains an independent, family-owned establishment.

It has a choice of 16 beers onsite across cask and keg as well wine, cider, gin, and soft drinks. And every week the kitchen is hired out to a different street trader on a rotational basis.

But did you know that it also hosts comedy nights?

Held upstairs in its Sample Room, Really Funny Comedy has been bringing once-a-month shows to what might seem a somewhat obscure venue since March 2022 – but many people still don't know about them.

It also brings with it big names too, with the likes of Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Joe Thomas, Omid Djalili, Maisie Adam, Josh Pugh and Troy Hawke performing gigs there. Indeed, some stand up acts such as Lucy Beaumont picked Roosters to perform their warm-up shows and try out new material.

Each comedy evening is hosted on the last Thursday of every month (except July and August when there’s a break) by compère Micky P Kerr – who himself is an established comedian and BGT finalist – and the team hand-pick comedians if they think they’re genuinely, really funny.

The team at Roosters said:

“Our shared aim with Micky is to bring some of the best comedians in the country to new audiences, with the added bonus of being able to enjoy a decent pint or two at the same time too.”

Some of the gigs can be sold out so booking early is advised, and seating is available on a first come, first served basis.

The next comedy night will be on Thursday May 30 and will feature Alun Cochrane, Ignacio Lopez and Al Stevenson. Doors will open at 7pm.

Roosters is based at Unit H5, Fifth Avenue, Hornbeam Park, Harrogate.
